This lesson was written in my school's format, but based off of observations from my cooperating teacher. Quick Practice involves whole class responses, daily review and are sometimes led by student leaders. Students will learn basic number skills, how to break a number apart by groupings, and number sense.

In October we talked about the season of fall. During this lesson I used the projector to look through pictures of the Autumn season. It was raining that day so our lesson required technology instead of outside experience. The students used a four square writing method to write about four things they love about the fall using strategies to write the sounds they hear.

Each week we read a new Pre-Decodable book. Learning to decode is part of the process of learning to read. It includes sounding out words using the sounds of the letters in the words, looking at the picture to help figure out the word, and reviewing sight words.

This lesson addresses how to represent addition problems and how to switch the partners or equation. 3+1 becomes 1+3. The students enjoyed using dinosaur toys to represent their equation and the hands on movement of switching the partners around. My higher level learners also used marker boards to write the full equation down.
